FAST30 2024: The Movers and Shakers in the Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV Arena

Media Play News

May 27, 2024

Welcome to the inaugural FAST30, in which we are spotlighting 30 key players in the free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) segment of the home entertainment business.

It’s part of Media Play News’ ongoing initiative to bring attention to the people, and faces, behind the various components of the home entertainment industry, from content to technology. We consider it our mission to monitor not just where home entertainment is heading, but who’s driving it.

Nominees were submitted by our readers and then narrowed down into 30 finalists by Media Play News editors in partnership with Whip Media, an entertainment software content performance reporting platform and data provider.

Statistics underscore the growing prominence of FAST channels, and their soaring importance, in home entertainment.

According to Gavin Bridge, VP of media research for CPG Global and a FAST-focused analyst, there were more than 1,963 FAST channels in the U.S. alone as of March 2024.

A recent Whip Media study found that public awareness of FAST platforms such as Tubi, Pluto and Freevee has gone up 43% over the past two years, while nearly half of respondents said they watched FAST channels at least a few times a month.

A study by LG Ad Solutions found that nearly 70% of connected-TV users prefer FAST content to paid, ad-free streaming subscriptions.

And during the April NAB Show 2024, Parks Associates said its research found that half of U.S. video-viewing households now watch FAST channels on a regular basis.

With that, meet the FAST30 — profiled here in no particular order.
