Queen Letizia and King Felipe of Spain embody royalty as they arrive arm-in-arm for the 2020 Princesa de Asturias Awards ceremony held at the Reconquista Hotel on Friday evening (October 16) in Oviedo, Spain. The married monarchs were joined at the event by his mother, Queen Sofia, and their daughters Leonor, Princess of Asturias, and Infanta Sofia. Leonor, who is in line to become the queen of the country after her father, was seen wearing heels for the first time for the occasion.
The awards are named in honor of the Princess of Asturias and are in tribute to those who carry out scientific, cultural and humanistic values and work that form part of the universal heritage of humanity.
Just the day before, Felipe, Letizia, Sofia and Leonor were seen visiting ‘FPAbrica’, the Old Weapon Factory of La Vega.
The set of industrial buildings is hosting the cultural activities programmed for this year to tribute the winners from 2019.

Leonor, Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofia of Spain will be quarantined after a classmate tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus. The young Spanish royals had only just returned to school when the positive test was revealed. The person who tested positive is a classmate of Leonor, 14, who will now undergo a 14-day quarantine for precaution. Sofia, who accompanied her sister to school, will also have to be quarantined as well. Leonor returned to school on Wednesday (September 9), while Sofia just started back today (September 11). In Spain, social bubbles had been created for students and contact between classes is limited to avoid infection. Earlier in the year, Leonor and Sofia‘s parents, King Felipe and Queen Letizia were also tested and put in quarantine after Letizia was in contact with someone who had tested positive.

Spanish Royal Family Wears Masks To Tour Historic Town After Princess Sofia Injures Knee
King Felipe stands to the side and helps daughter, Infanta Sofia, descend the stairs during their visit around Petra in Mallorca, Spain on Monday afternoon (August 10). It’s reported that Sofia, 13, injured her knee just after she arrived for the summer holiday with dad Felipe, mom Queen Letizia and older sister, Leonor, Princess of Asturias, at the Marivent Palace and is using a crutch to walk.
The Spanish Royal Family were visiting the birthplace of Franciscan monk, Fray Junipero Serra, who was born in the town in the 18th century.
Felipe, Letizia, Leonor and Sofia took a small tour of his birthplace before moving on to the museum, which tells the story of the life of Junipero Serra and his travels in California, spreading Christianity.
The foursome kicked off their planned summer holiday after wrapping up a royal tour and just after Juan Carlos I, King Emeritus, went into exile.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain step out for a memorial event to honor COVID-19 victims at the Zarzuela Palace on Wednesday (May 27) in Madrid, Spain. The two Spanish monarchs gathered with their daughters, Leonor, Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofia for the somber event. Early on, Letizia and Felipe were both tested for the coronavirus after she came into contact with someone who had tested positive. They both were negative for the virus. King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia pose with their daughters Princess Leonor and Princess Sofia in front of the Lions Gate at the Congress of Deputies during the King’s official coronation ceremony on Thursday (June 19) in Madrid, Spain. In a rare move, Felipe‘s father King Juan Carlos abdicated his throne earlier this month after a 39 year reign to hand power over to his son. “[Felipe has] the maturity, the preparation and the sense of responsibility necessary [to serve and] to lead to a new stage of hope using his experience and the drive of a new generation,” said Juan Carlos, who will still keep his title. He skipped several events in the coronation, “So as to give more prominence to the new King,” Spain’s Royal Palace confirmed.
